Fact of the Day: microorganisms

A microorganism is a life form that is too small for the human eye to see unaided, usually less than one millimeter (0.04 inches) in size. Microorganisms include algae, bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and viruses, and are divided into two main groups: the protists and the monerans. Protists, such as algae and protozoa, are mostly unicellular, with a cell structure similar to that of plants and animals. Monerans are divided into bacteria and blue-green bacteria.
