cinturón, noun
belt

Sometimes a word in Spanish has a very similar basic meaning to an English word, and el cinturón is one of those. The literal belts it covers include the one you wear with pants:

un cinturón de piel negro
a black leather belt

It also covers the seatbelt you wear in an automobile, or an airplane. In this case the full phrase is el cinturón de seguridad.

Salvaron la vida por llevar el cinturón puesto.
They were saved by wearing their seabelts.

When travelling by air you will hear the cabin crew instructing:

Abróchense los cinturones de seguridad.
Please fasten your seatbelts.

To do up your seatbelt you use the verb abrocharse, and to undo it, you use desabrocharse.
