We have created some new English vocabulary games about different parts of the house and what you can often find in each room or place.

But before you try these game, I recommend looking through our reading passages containing much of the information and vocabulary you will need to know:

At the bottom of each of these games you will find another way to practice this vocabulary (and spelling) via a classic Hangman game.

Fact of the Day: deer and antelope

Deer and antelope look alike and are both herbivorous, hoofed animals. However, they belong to different families, deer constituting a family of their own while antelope -- including duikers, gazelles, and spiral-horned antelope -- belong to the same family as cattle. The headgear is the distinguishing feature: deer have branched antlers that are shed, while antelope have unbranched horns that are permanent. The largest of all deer is the moose of North America, known in Europe as the elk.

beginning

When you want to talk about the beginning of something, principio is one way of saying it:

El principio del libro es muy interesante
The beginning of the book is very interesting

desde el principio hasta el fin
from beginning to end, from start to finish

Principio is also used in expressions to do with time, especially in the phrase al principio:

Al principio parecía muy fácil
It seemed very easy at first

a principios de la primavera
at the beginning of spring

Desde el principio me di cuenta de que me iba a mentir
From the outset I realised he was going to lie to me
