Feet are an important part of our anatomy, especially when it comes to walking, which is ir a pie:

Decidimos ir a pie al castillo
We decided to walk to the castle

And if you stand up, in peninsular Spanish the phrase is ponerse de pie (in Latin American Spanish it's pararse):

Al verme, se puso de pie
When he saw me he stood up

Apart from referring to people's feet, pie is also used in a similar way to English for things which are the foot of an inanimate object

Un vestido colgaba a los pies de la cama
There was a dress hanging at the foot of the bed

un pueblo al pie del monte
a village at the foot of the mountain
