When followed by an object, calentar often refers to heating up or warming up something such as a liquid. Notice how the -en- becomes -ien- in the present. ¿Quieres que te caliente* la leche? Would you like me to heat up the milk for you? You use the reflexive form calentarse to talk about warming yourself up: Cargaron unas botellas de whiski para calentarse durante la caminata.
