facilitar, verb
to make easier; to facilitate

Facilitar has an English equivalent which looks the same ? to facilitate ?but which often sounds more formal and longwinded than the Spanish. Facilitar comes from fácil, easy, and often the best translation is to make ... easier. Remember that unlike English, the stress is often on the second letter i, as shown by a capital letter in the examples below.

Una computadora facilIta mucho el trabajo.
A computer makes work much easier.
Internet facilIta el acceso a la información.
Internet makes it easier to get hold of information.

In official language, of course, to facilitate is a suitable translation for facilitar.

un plan para facilitar el desarrollo de una política coordinada del empleo
a plan to facilitate the development of a co-ordinated employment policy
