On This Day:
Tuesday June 24, 2014

This is the 175th day of the year, with 190 days remaining in 2014.

Fact of the Day: dairy products

Dairy products, used by humans since the beginning of recorded time, include milk and anything made with milk. Cow milk is by far the most commonly used dairy product in the world, although sheep and goats are also raised for their milk. Dairying in North America began with the earliest European invasions: Spaniards brought cattle to Veracruz (Mexico) in 1525, and English cattle reached Jamestown in 1611. It takes more than 21 pounds of milk to produce one pound of butter, 12 pounds of whole milk to produce one gallon of ice cream, and 10 pounds of milk to produce one pound of cheese.
