hervir, verb
to boil

Just like English to boil, hervir can refer to something which is boiling ...

El agua hierve.
The water’s boiling.
El agua está hirviendo.
The water’s boiling.

... and to making something boil:

Úsalo como caldo para hervir el arroz blanco o la pasta.
Use it as stock to boil plain rice or pasta in.

Similarly to English, something you don’t approve of can make your blood boil, hervir la sangre:

Al oírlo me hirvió la sangre.
When I heard, it made my blood boil.
