horno, noun
oven

El horno is the basic word for any kind of oven.

meter las manzanas en el horno 30-35 minutos
put the apples in the oven for 30-35 minutes

El horno is a useful word when it comes to understanding restaurant menus. Food which is al horno is roasted or baked.

pollo al horno
roast chicken
pescado al horno
baked fish

Just as with English oven you can use horno as a metaphor:

Este lugar es un horno.
It’s like an oven in here.

The idiom no está el horno para bollos (word for word, ‘the oven isnt’ ready for buns’) means the time isn’t ripe for something.
