On This Day:
Monday June 30, 2014

This is the 181st day of the year, with 184 days remaining in 2014.

Fact of the Day: Häagen-Dazs

Häagen-Dazs, the premium ice cream brand, became a registered company in 1961. Why the Scandinavian-sounding name Häagen-Dazs was chosen remains a mystery. It is not a real word, but was made up by Ruben Mattus, who founded the company. However, the name does convey an aura of old-world tradition and craftsmanship. The first three flavors of Häagen-Dazs - vanilla, chocolate, and coffee - were introduced in 1961 in New York delis. Vanilla is the most popular Häagen-Dazs flavor in the United States.
