guest

Invitado is the word you generally use to talk about guests in all kinds of contexts:

los invitados a la boda
the wedding guests
A la fiesta vinieron unos 500 invitados.
About 500 people came to the party.

When you’ve got dinner guests, you also use the word invitado:

Esta noche tenemos invitados a cenar.
We’ve got people coming to dinner tonight.

Note the following phrases referring to guests at major events, and on TV shows:

invitado de honor
guest of honor
invitado estelar, invitado estrella
star guest
