Yesterday's Word - Previous Words - Help

flojo, adjective
loose; weak, feeble

Flojo is the word to use if a knot or a screw is loose:

Nunca ha estado en público con el nudo flojo de la corbata.
He's never been seen in public with the knot of his tie loose.

But though loose is the core meaning of flojo, you use it more often to mean weak in various senses. Literally, in a physical sense:

Está muy flojo después de su enfermedad.
He's very weak after his illness.

Or in a transferred sense, describing things which are not very good or impressive, just like English feeble or weak:

Su actuación floja empujó al equipo a la derrota.
His feeble performance led his team to defeat.
Dice chistes flojos en la televisión.
He tells feeble jokes on television.
