preparar, verb
to prepare

We’ve already come across preparar meaning to prepare or to get ready, used as a transitive verb:

Tengo que preparar el discurso.
I need to prepare my speech.

It is often used in the reflexive form, prepararse. In this form, followed by para, you use it to mean to be ready for something:

Debemos prepararnos para esto.
We need to be ready for this.

Prepararse followed by para and the infinitive means to get ready to do something.

Me estaba preparando para salir.
I was getting ready to go out.
