Sometimes Spanish uses two different words to describe different aspects of a thing or concept that English describes with one word. Classic examples are ser and estar, for to be, and una esquina and un rincón for a corner. Another example is wall. When you are talking about the outer wall of a building, you use el muro.

Estaba apoyado contra el muro de la casa.
He was leaning against the wall of the house.

el muro de Berlín
the Berlin wall

You can also use el muro figuratively:

Se enfrentó con un muro de silencio.
He came up against a wall of silence.
