As mentioned in another Spanish Word of the Day, muro, Spanish uses two main words to express the concept of wall. El muro refers to an external wall, while la pared means an internal wall.

Habrá que volver a pintar esta pared.
We’ll have to paint this wall again.

You also use pared to refer to walls in the body,

las paredes del tubo alimentario
the walls of the alimentary canal

And you also use it when suggesting to someone that they need to be discreet:

Las paredes oyen.
The walls have ears.
