Yesterday's Word - Previous Words - Help

piso, noun
story, floor; apartment

El piso is one of many Spanish words whose meaning can vary according to where in the Spanish-speaking world you use it. The meaning of story is the same everywhere:

un edificio de tres pisos
a three-story building

So if you live or work in an apartment block, it’s a useful word:

Mi oficina está en el primer piso.
My office is on the second floor.

In Spain particularly, piso refers to an apartment.

Tienen un piso precioso en pleno centro.
They have a beautiful apartment right in the center.

In Latin American, it refers to the floor of a room:

El piso estaba lleno de papeles.
The floor was covered in papers.
