In certain styles of writing, mostrarse followed by an adjective or noun describes how somebody feels or behaves. It goes with adjectives and nouns such as reacio, reticente, desconforme and partidario, often followed by an infinitive.

Se mostraba reacio a aceptar este compromiso.
He was reluctant to accept this compromise.
El 53 por ciento de los españoles se mostraban partidarios de la gestión del Gobierno.
53 per cent of Spaniards were in favour of the government’s running of the country.
