Yesterday's Word - Previous Words - Help

dejar, verb
to allow, to let

We’ve already seen dejar de meaning to stop doing.

He dejado de fumar.
I’ve stopped smoking.

If you use dejar with an object and followed by the infinitive, it means to allow, or to let.

Mis padres no me dejan salir de noche.
My parents don’t let me go out at night.
No me dejaron entrar.
They wouldn’t let me in.

You often use this construction in the imperative:

Déjeme mirar.
Let me have a look.
