oír, verb
to hear; to listen to

Oír is the basic word for hearing someone or something. Remember that it’s a rather irregular verb: oigo, oyes, oye, and so forth. And don’t forget the accent over the letter í in the infinitive and the past participle.

He oído un ruido.
I heard a noise.
¿Me oyes bien?
Can you hear me all right?

Oír also conveys the idea of listening to something.

oír la radio
to listen to the radio
