Yesterday's Word - Previous Words - Help

pierna, noun
leg

La pierna is different from English leg in that it generally refers to human legs only, not to animals’ legs.

Tenía las piernas largas.
He had long legs.
Se sentó con las piernas cruzadas.
She sat down with her legs crossed.

You refer to animal legs with the word pata, which is in the Word of the Day archive. But, if you’re talking about a leg of meat for cooking, you use pierna:

una pierna de cordero
a leg of lamb
