Yesterday's Word - Previous Words - Help

contar, verb
to tell; to count

Contar is a very important word for communicating with other people. Notice how the -o changes to -ue in some cases (technically, it’s a ‘radical-changing’ verb). You can ask someone to tell you something:

Cuéntame lo que pasó.
Tell me what happened.

Or ask them if they want you to tell them something.

¿Quieres que te cuente cómo fue?
Shall I tell you what it was like?

It also means to count:

Sabe contar hasta diez.
He can count to ten.
