Yesterday's Word - Previous Words - Help

pues, conjunction
well

We’ve already how you can use pues, then, to suggest that one thing follows logically from another

Tengo sueño - ¡Pues vete a la cama!
I’m tired - Then go to bed!

You can also use it to carry on telling someone something after a pause, for example if you’ve been interrupted:

Pues, como te iba contando.
Well, as I was saying.

Or you can use it to emphasize that your point of view is different from someone else’s:

¿Así que va a llamar a la policía si no nos vamos? Pues, le aseguro que la policía no nos va a encontrar cuando llegue.
So you’re going to call the police if we don’t go, are you? Well, I can tell you, the police won’t find us here by the time they arrive.
