tiempo, noun
time

We’ve already come across tiempo in phrases such as tener tiempo to have time, and matar el tiempo to kill time:

No tengo tiempo.
I haven’t got time.

Another very common phrase is mucho tiempo, a long time. Notice how it is used with hace:

Hace mucho tiempo que no la veo.
I haven’t seen her for a long time.

... and with durante:

Durante mucho tiempo fue mi amigo más íntimo.
For a long time he was my closest friend.

You can also use it after the verb llevar and before an adjective to say how long something has been the way it is:

El sitio lleva mucho tiempo vacío.
The place has been empty for a long time.
