path

A literal path linking places is un sendero.

el sendero que conduce a la puerta principal
the path which leads to the front door
Caminaban por un sendero de tierra.
They were walking along a dirt path or dirt track.

You can also use sendero in a figurative way, and the translation may be a different word from path:

Quiere que el club siga* por el mismo sendero.
He wants the club to keep going in the same direction.
La política internacional camina por nuevos senderos.
International politics has taken a new turn.
