Unfortunately, many people don't know how to use condoms, so the actual failure rate is more like 12 percent. Both of those percentages can be decreased by also using a water-based spermicide (oil-based spermicides will weaken the latex). But the best way for you to avoid any dangerous situations is to learn to use the condom properly.
