Since they are attracted to organic materials that commonly accumulate on woolens, such as body oils, perspiration, and saliva, it is important to keep your woolens clean. Dry cleaning or laundering will also kill moth eggs and larvae. You could also try concocting an old-time moth repellent like the one used in the 1800s by members of the Sturbridge Village farm community in Sturbridge, Massachusetts; it consisted of a mixture of dried plants including geranium, lavender, and tansy, along with pine needles and cedar chips. The mixture was packed into small cloth bags which were tucked into folded woolens.
