El balance translates as balance, in the accounting and banking meaning:

el balance de mi cuenta corriente
the balance in my checking or current account

It can also refer to the toll in accidents:

El balance final de víctimas es de dos muertos y ocho heridos.
The final toll was two dead and eight injured.

When people review or assess how they or someone else has performed, they often use the phrase hacer balance, meaning to assess or to take stock of:

Es hora de hacer balance de lo bueno y de lo malo de nuestra relación.
It’s time to take stock of the good and bad points in our relationship.
