On This Day:
Tuesday April 22, 2014

This is the 112th day of the year, with 253 days remaining in 2014.

Fact of the Day: PEZ

PEZ candies were first marketed as a compressed peppermint candy in 1927 in Vienna, Austria. The name PEZ was derived from the German word for peppermint: PfeffErminZ. PEZ candies were introduced to the United States in 1950 in a headless dispenser; cartoon head dispensers and assorted fruit-flavored candies made their appearance in 1952, with Popeye being the first cartoon figure to be so used. Over three billion PEZ candies are consumed annually in the United States. PEZ is considered an "interactive candy" because it is enjoyable to eat and fun to play with. Collecting PEZ dispensers is popular with children and adults alike.
