On This Day:
Sunday March 16, 2014

This is the 75th day of the year, with 290 days remaining in 2014.

Fact of the Day: Seven Sisters

The Seven Sisters were a group of seven prestigious liberal arts colleges for women in the northeastern United States in 1927. The group promoted the cause of all-women's education and included Mount Holyoke College, Vassar College, Wellesley College, Smith College, Radcliffe College, Bryn Mawr College, and Barnard College. Barnard is now affiliated with Columbia University, Vassar is coeducational, and Radcliffe College formally merged with Harvard University in 1999. The name Seven Sisters refers to the Pleiades, seven sisters from Greek mythology. It was used as a parallel to the Ivy League of men's colleges.
