amarillo, adjective
yellow

Amarillo is very different from English yellow because it comes from Latin. It’s the basic colour word, as in:

hojas amarillas
yellow leaves

It’s also used to create some compound nouns.

la prensa amarilla
the gutter press
la fiebre amarilla
yellow fever

...and the card which all soccer players fear:

la tarjeta amarilla
the yellow card

Remember that like other colour words amarillo comes after the noun.
