Yesterday's Word - Previous Words - Help

preparar, verb
to prepare, to get ready

You use preparar with anything you need to prepare or get ready:

Tengo que preparar el discurso.
I need to prepare my speech.

Sometimes you can translate preparar with a different word:

Estamos preparando el siguiente número de la revista.
We’re getting the next issue of the magazine ready or We’re working on the next issue of the magazine.

But there’s a meaning to do with food and drink which is rather different from English.

Mi padre está preparando la cena.
My father’s making dinner.
¿Quieres que te prepare un café, Miguelito?
Shall I make a coffee for you, Miguel?
