to write down, to make a note of; to point

Apuntar has two meanings which don’t have an obvious connection. The first one is to write down, make a note of something:

Apúntalo o te vas a olvidar.
Write it down, or you’ll forget.
¿Por qué no apuntas mis datos?
Why don’t you take a note of my details?

Apuntar also means to point:

Me apuntó con el dedo.
He pointed at me.
