frente a, preposition
opposite; in front of; in the face of

Frente a is a very useful phrase when you need directions, or are directing someone.

El hotel está frente a la catedral.
The hotel is opposite the cathedral.

It’s also useful in other contexts.

Estaba sentada frente a mi.
She was sitting opposite me.

Frente a also refers to being literally in front of something...

frente a las cámaras
in front of the cameras

...or metaphorically, in the face of something abstract, such as a crisis:

Son nuestra única esperanza frente a tanta crisis.
They are our only hope in the face of such a crisis.
