Yesterday's Word - Previous Words - Help

descanso, noun
break; half time

El descanso derives from descansar, to rest, as seen in an earlier Spanish Word of the day. From the idea of ‘rest’ come some of its other main meanings. First, a break in something such as your work:

Cada dos horas me tomo un descanso.
Every two hours I take a break.

Then half time in a game, such as a soccer match.

El gol llegó casi en el descanso.
The goal came just before half time.
