Yesterday's Word - Previous Words - Help

regalar, verb
to give; to give away

We’ve already come across regalo, meaning a present. Regalar, to give, is the related verb.

¿Y si le regalamos un libro?
What about giving him a book?
Ayer fue mi cumpleaños. - ¿Qué te regalaron?
Yesterday was my birthday. - What did you get?

In some contexts you can translate regalar as to present.

En su jubilación le regalaron este reloj.
They presented him with this clock on his retirement.

Regalar also means to give something away.

Están regalando plumas.
They’re giving away pens.
