exit, way out

Salida derives from the verb salir and is the basic way of referring to an exit from a public building. You may well see it on signs such as:

salida de emergencia
emergency exit
salida de incendios
fire exit

It can also refer to the action of leaving somewhere:

Le prohibieron la salida del país.
He was forbidden to leave the country.
a su salida de la cárcel
after he came out of prison
