Yesterday's Word - Previous Words - Help

desvelar, verb
to reveal; to keep awake

Desvelar is a verb with two rather different meanings. It can mean to reveal something secret, such as names, identities, and mysteries.

El presidente de la comisión rehúsa desvelar los nombres.
The chairman of the commission refuses to reveal the names.
El lunes se desvelará el misterio.
The mystery will be revealed on Monday.

It can also mean to keep awake:

El café me desvela.
Coffee keeps me awake.

The reason these two meanings are so different is that they originally come from two different words.
