pararse, verb
to stand up

We’ve already come across parar meaning to stop:

Paramos a poner gasolina.
We stopped to get petrol.

In Latin America pararse is the standard way of saying to stand up:

Cuando entraba el maestro en al aula, en seguida nos parábamos todos.
When the teacher came into the classroom all of us used to stand up right away.
Facilita asimismo que el paciente se pare*.
It makes it easier for the patient to stand up.
