On This Day:
Thursday December 19, 2013

This is the 353rd day of the year, with 12 days remaining in 2013.

Fact of the Day: human voice

The human voice can shatter a crystal glass. A singer can shatter a crystal glass by following a simple technique. First, the singer must have perfect pitch and a capacity to hold the pitch for a time. Second, the natural frequency of vibration for the glass must be determined by tapping the glass with a tool for tapping bottles. Third, the singer must then sing in the same note as the natural frequency of the glass, increase the frequency to 130 decibels, and hold it for a time. When the singer achieves this sound, the glass will begin to vibrate and then shatter.
