montar, verb
to ride

Lots of Spanish verbs, such as montar, have different meanings according to whether you use them with a grammatical object or without. Today we're looking at montar used without an object.
If you ride a horse or a bike, this is the word you need. Notice which prepositions you need to use:

No sabe montar a caballo.
He doesn't know how to ride (a horse).
Le encanta montar en bici.
She loves cycling.

With other forms of transport, montar just means to travel by the means specified:

Yo nunca he montado en góndola.
I've never travelled in a gondola.
