morirse, verb
to die

Morirse means to die in a literal sense.

Sus dos padres se murieron el año pasado.
Both her parents died last year.

It is also used in lots of idiomatic phrases where the idea of dying is purely rhetorical, or an exaggeration to emphasize how much you want to do something. Sometimes the exaggeration is the same as in English:

Me muero de ganas de verte.
I'm dying to see you.

Por poco, se muere de vergüenza.
He nearly died of shame.

Sometimes it's a different image:

Me moría de miedo.
I was scared stiff.

Todas sus amigas se mueren de envidia.
All her friends are green with envy or beside themselves with envy.
