nervios, plural noun
nerves

In Spanish as in English los nervios, your nerves, are credited with an important role in how you behave.

Hay que estar muy tranquilo y no perder los nervios.
You have to stay very calm and not lose your nerve.

A very well-known Spanish film features un ataque de nervios, a fit of nerves, in the title:

Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios
Women on the edge of a nervous breakdown

And if you are on edge, you talk about having los nervios de punta:

Tenía los nervios de punta.
