vidrio, noun
glass; window pane

Like many other Spanish words, vidrio covers concepts which in English are related but are expressed by different words, in this case: glass and window pane.
If you're talking about something being made of glass, or about the substance in general, you use vidrio.

edificios modernos de cemento, acero y vidrio

A window pane in a house or other building is also un vidrio.

Los chicos rompieron el vidrio.
