In an earlier Word of the Day we looked at realizar used with certain nouns in the general sense of to carry out an action or an activity.

Sólo quiere realizar su trabajo sin publicidad.
She just wants to carry out her work without any publicity.

Another meaning in which you can use realizar is to fulfill. In this meaning you often use it to talk about your hopes and dreams, so it goes with words such as la ambición:

realizar sus ambiciones
to fulfill your ambitions

Related to this meaning is the idea of living a fulfilled life:

Se siente personalmente realizado.
He feels personally fulfilled.
