doblar, verb
to double

Apart from its meaning of to fold, mentioned in an earlier Word of the Day, a second meaning of doblar is to double the quantity or amount of something.

Después de que amenazó con marcharse, le doblaron el sueldo.
After he threatened to leave they doubled his salary.
En verano nos doblan el trabajo.
In summer we have twice as much work.

You can use doblar and the indirect form of the personal pronoun ? me, te, le, etc?to talk about someone being twice as old as somebody else:

Te doblo la edad.
I’m twice as old as you.
