bajar, verb
to take down; to turn down

Bajar has many other meanings apart from its basic physical meaning of to go down and to come down. In the first place, to take down. This can be either in the sense of moving something from a higher to a lower level:

¿Has bajado la basura?
Have you taken the garbage or rubbish down?

Or taking someone from a higher place to a lower one. For instance, you could ask a taxi driver:

¿Me baja al centro?
Can you take me to the center of town or downtown?

Since the adjective bajo has to do with how loud a sound is, bajar also expresses the idea of turning the volume down:

Baja la radio, que no oigo nada.
Turn the radio down, I can’t hear a thing.
Baja la voz, que no estoy sordo.
Keep your voice down, I’m not deaf.
