Adopt a pet.

            ¹Do you live alone in New York City? ²Do you need companionship? ³Do you like animals? ⁴Adopt a pet.

            ⁵Don’t buy a pet. ⁶Animals are very expensive in a pet store. ⁷Visit the A.S.P.C.A. (American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) or one of the city’s animal shelters. ⁸They have lots of animals for adoption - - -Siamese cats, German shepherd dogs, Irish setters, and many mixed breeds. ⁹Look at the different animals. ¹⁰Say, “I want a friendly, healthy pet.” ¹¹Pick one out and take it home. ¹²Give it food and “tender loving care.” ¹³That isn’t very difficult, and the reward is friendship and loyalty.
